If you have contacts in Nigeria you must most likely think Peter Obi is going to win the election this weekend. The youth think he is their man because he is in his early 60s and the youngest out of the 18 presidential candidates of which only 1 is female in Africa’s most populous country. If we are to go by the regional theory in the sense of Nigeria we can’t have anyone getting 50%+1 in the first round. Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Party is the strongest candidate from the North as he became popular when he was the Deputy Speaker for the House of Representatives but he is not close to national support at all, Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party and former Vice President of Nigeria too has the Northern support but his people think he is too liberal or too Nigerian. From the South Bola Tinubu and the former governor of Lagos can easily split the vote with Peter Obi who made his name in the banking sector before becoming a clean governor in Anambra state and the said favorite for the youth who are about 40% of the 94 million registered voters. In Nigeria, the vote depends on religious and ethnic factors that will affect the youth effect of Obi. In Uganda, one thing was clear even the youth take on ethnic lines when voting, and that will happen in Nigeria giving Tinubu from the establishment a tiny edge over Obi. It’s too close to call.

Away from west Africa, last week in my rant I did talk about who was going to attend the AU summit in Addis Ababa, and I am certain in the foreign category I did not mention Israel but Tel Aviv sent its diplomats anyway and they turned out to be the center of attention as South Africa got nostalgic about Apartheid along with Algeria which has become a Champion for colonies the world over got together and asked Israel to be removed from the Hall which happened in real-time. Of course, Israel was in Ethiopia to lobby for votes at the United Nations General Assembly that will legitimize its Apartheid system. They blamed Iran for what happened which was expected, even when there is too much or little rain Israel blames Iran as they fight shadow geopolitical wars.

Speaking of South Africa the CEO of Eskom resigned as political pressure accumulated over the issue of power blackouts. As a member of BRICS Pretoria should talk to China and Russia about Nuclear energy to solve the power issue.

Still, on the BRICS countries Brazil, experienced floods in the south eastern part of the country two cities of Sāo Sebastiāo and Ubatuba decided to cancel the carnival. BRICS countries are making more moves on the world stage with the Chinese foreign secretary Wang Yi visiting Russia for some sort of talks that we’ll see Xi jinping visit Russia to discuss the supply of arms to be used in Ukraine according to Jen Stoltenberg the head of NATO.

Back home here in Uganda there is another of those everyday scandals, this time Iron roofing sheets that were meant for Karamoja ended up in other parts of the country, and the plunder was shared amongst the top leadership through the office of the head of government business. It will pass and Ugandans will move on as they wait to hear another episode of mismanagement. The only time spoils from Karamoja hunted a Ugandan official was when the former Vice President decided to try and be the AU Sectary General and their google log was full of Valley dams in Karamoja that never materialized. But Iron roofing sheets not reaching their destination in their thousands is nothing new.

I am forgetting the American President went to Ukraine briefly to instruct the Jew head of state on how to go about on dealing with Russia and a day after Putin addressed his country in a speech he compared what G7 pledged to fight deprivation and poverty in the world which were $ 60 billion and the $ 155 + billion they have sent to fight a proxy war, he also went hard on defining the composition of a family and went on to say pedophilia is a culture in the west before ending with a bang of basically pulling out of nuclear arms safeguard treaty sending experts on a wild guess of what happens after.

“Even Singapore, whose government is forced by law not to spend more than the money it receives in taxes, finds it essential to borrow money. Why? Because a market society’s bankers need public debt as surely as fish need water to swim in. Without public debt, market societies can’t work” Yanis Varoufakis in Talking to My Daughter about the Economy. In Uganda, a country with about 50% GDP Debt ratio is suspending public debt and huge public expenditure for a full financial year, will see who will pay taxes if car dealers don’t get business from government procurements.

Let me go and work on my other two drafts for this blog as I wait for the government’s new digital number plates for vehicles that are going to turn out to be like the NSSF visa cards which are useless and also go against the privacy of Citizens.
